Okay, so, I’ve been dealing with this whole cat litter situation, and let me tell you, it’s been a journey. I have this adorable little furball, Mittens, and finding the right litter box for her has been quite the adventure. So I started by picking up one of those standard-sized boxes. I read somewhere that it’s generally a good rule of thumb to get a box that is at least 1.5 times the length of your cat. Mittens isn’t huge, but she’s not a kitten anymore, so I figured this medium-sized box would be just fine.
I set it up in the usual spot, filled it with litter, and waited. Mittens went in, did her business, and came out. Seemed okay at first. But then I noticed something. She started having these little “accidents” outside the box. Not cool, Mittens, not cool. I’m thinking, “What’s going on here?” I mean, I clean the box regularly. It’s not like I’m slacking in that department. So, I started doing some research.
I read about all these different types of litter boxes. Open ones, covered ones, top-entry ones… you name it. I even saw some crazy automatic ones that supposedly do all the work for you. The prices on those things, though! Some were like 80 bucks! I was thinking there must be some cheaper options out there, and then I saw a top-entry one for 35 dollars. I read that most cats prefer an open litter box, so I decided to stick with that for the time being.
So then I started considering the size. Maybe the medium box was just a tad too small for her. I found a new box that was a bit larger than the medium size. It was still an open-top design, which I liked, and it wasn’t too expensive either. And I also found a range of litter mats. I bought a new litter mat.
Experiment Time
- Step 1: Replaced the old medium-sized box with the slightly larger one.
- Step 2: Placed the new litter mat under the litter box.
- Step 3: Filled it up with the same litter she’s used to.
- Step 4: Observed Mittens’s behavior.
And guess what? It worked like a charm! No more accidents. She seems much happier with the larger box. I guess she just needed a little extra room to do her thing. I’m so relieved. It’s amazing how such a simple change can make such a big difference. So, if you’re having litter box issues, I definitely recommend taking a look at the size. It might just be the solution you’re looking for!
Anyway, I just wanted to share my little cat litter box saga. Hopefully, it helps someone out there. It’s all about finding what works best for your furry friend, right?
