Okay, so, I’ve been wanting to do something about my cat’s litter box situation for a while now. It’s just kind of an eyesore, you know? And stepping on stray litter? The worst! So I finally decided to make a cat box planter.
First things first, I needed a planter. I found a decent-sized one at the local home improvement store, nothing fancy. Then I grabbed my trusty spiral saw – that thing is a lifesaver for cutting shapes – and made a hole in the side of the planter. It wasn’t pretty, but I knew I could fix it.
Next up, sanding. I spent a good chunk of time sanding down those rough edges around the hole. Gotta make sure it’s smooth so my kitty doesn’t get any scratches going in and out. Safety first, always!
Now for the fun part – making it look nice! I got some decorative trim, about 1 inch, just to give the hole a more finished look. I used some liquid nails to stick it on. Man, that stuff is strong! It held the trim in place like a champ.
I also had this old cabinet lying around, and I thought, “Why not?” So I repurposed it as a stand for the planter. It actually turned out pretty cool. It gave the whole thing some height and made it look more like a piece of furniture rather than just a cat box.
Then I decided to use sand as the litter. Because sand is gentle on cats’ paws, and is virtually dust-free. But it requires more frequent changing than some commercial litters.
- Planter: Just a regular one from the store.
- Spiral Saw: For cutting the hole.
- Sandpaper: To smooth out the edges.
- 1-inch Trim: For decoration.
- Liquid Nails: To glue the trim.
- Old Cabinet: Used as a stand.
- Sand: Use as litter.
I’m pretty stoked about how it turned out. It’s definitely an upgrade from the old plastic box. And my cat seems to like it too! No more stepping on stray litter, and it actually looks pretty decent in my living room. Win-win!
Oh, and one more thing! I added some fake plants on top of the planter to make it look even nicer. It really ties the whole thing together and gives it that “planter” vibe. You wouldn’t even know there’s a litter box hiding in there!
It took a bit of work, but it was totally worth it. Now my cat has a more discreet place to do his business, and I don’t have to cringe every time I look at the litter box. If you’re thinking about doing something similar, I say go for it! It’s a fun little project, and your cat will thank you for it.
