Help! My Cat is Gagging Nonstop, Should I Be Worried

Okay, so, like, my cat, she’s been acting weird lately, you know? She keeps gagging, like she’s gonna puke, but nothing comes out. It’s been freaking me out, so I started paying more attention to figure out what’s going on.

Help! My Cat is Gagging Nonstop, Should I Be Worried

First, I watched her like a hawk. I noticed it was happening a couple of times a day. Not just, like, a one-time thing. More than that, actually. It got me really worried, so I started thinking about what could be causing it. Hairballs, right? That’s the usual suspect. She’s a fluffy cat, so it made sense.

But then, I remembered reading somewhere that gagging could mean something more serious. So, to be safe, I called the vet. They said to bring her in, just to rule out anything bad.

The Vet Visit

  • The vet checked her out, asked me a bunch of questions about her habits, and did some tests.
  • Turns out, it wasn’t anything super serious, thankfully.
  • The vet said it could be a few things, including hairballs but also maybe some kind of throat irritation.

So, the vet gave me some advice. Said to brush her more often, which, yeah, I should have been doing anyway. And they recommended some special food that helps with hairballs. I also tried to massage her throat a bit when she’s gagging, and that seems to help her swallow whatever it is.

What I Learned

  • Don’t ignore gagging! If it happens a lot, take your cat to the vet. It is very important.
  • Brush your cat regularly! Especially if they’re fluffy.
  • Special food can help. Look for something formulated for hairball control.
  • Observe the cat! This will help you to understand what happens to your cat.
  • Call the vet! This is the best and most important thing you should do.

Since I started doing all this, she’s been gagging a lot less. I’m still keeping an eye on her, but I feel a lot better knowing I took action and it wasn’t something worse. If your cat is gagging, please take them to the vet. Do not wait! Always better safe than sorry, you know?
