Okay, so, I’ve got this cat, Mittens. Sweetest thing ever, but she’s got some mobility issues. Getting in and out of a regular litter box was becoming a real struggle for her. I felt so bad watching her, you know? It was breaking my heart. So I started thinking, there’s gotta be a better way. I gotta make this easier for her.
First, I tried just putting less litter in her old box, thinking maybe a lower edge would help. Nope. She still struggled to climb in. Then I thought, maybe a bigger box? So I got this huge storage container and cut one side down. It was a bit better, but still not great. Mittens could get in, but turning around was tricky. Plus, it was a mess! Litter everywhere. Not fun.
I started looking online, searching for “litter box for disabled cats” and stuff like that. I saw some folks recommending those “senior cat” litter boxes, the ones with a really low entry point. That seemed promising. But then I also read that you need more than one litter box, like one per cat plus an extra. I only have one cat, but I figured in this situation, it wouldn’t hurt to get her a second box
I went to the store, but they didn’t have anything for cats with specific needs. I even asked an employee if they had any ADA-accessible raised litter boxes. He looked at me like I was crazy, or he just didn’t know what I was talking about. I went home a little bit hopeless.
I decided to go online again and ordered two litter boxes. One was labeled as a “senior cat litter box” with a low entry, and the other was just a bigger, regular box. I figured I’d try both and see what worked best. And guess what?

Mittens took to it right away. She can get in and out so much easier now. It’s such a relief!

She uses it sometimes, and it gives her more room to move around. Now my girl is doing much better. I’m so glad I didn’t give up and kept trying to find a solution. It’s amazing what a difference the right litter box can make for a cat with special needs. She seems happier, and that makes me happy too.
My advice?
If your cat is having trouble with their litter box, don’t just settle. Keep looking until you find something that works for them. It might take some trial and error, but it’s worth it. Oh, and if you have any problems, try to find a good senior litter box or maybe a bigger one. It could make all the difference in the world to your furry friend!
